我现在正在学新概念英语第二册71课，一个著名的钟这篇课文。其中遇见一些不懂的句子，现在急求各位帮忙解答下。 the making of the clockwhen the new Housesof Parliament were being built.请问这句话中的making是名词还是动词，因为前面有定冠词the这句话该怎么翻译呢？make of一般是指由什么的制作。 Big Ben has rarely gone wrong.这句话中的rarely是什么意思呢？it failed to give thecorrect time.这句话也是correct是动词还是名词，在这里是什么意思呢？我所知道的是改正的意思。 A painter who had been working on the tower hung a pot of paint on one of the hands and slowed it down!这句话中的hung前面为什么不加and呢？

Big Ben takes its name from Sir Benjamin Hall who was responsible for the making of the clock when the new Houses of Parliament were being built.“大本”钟得名于本杰明.霍尔爵士，因为当建造新的国会大厦时，他负责建造大钟。making是名词，建造，制造。
be made of... 和 be made from... 都是表示由...制成，但前者用于原材料显而易见的时候；后者用于原材料不易看出的场合。例如：The desk is made of wood.课桌是由木材制作的。The paper is made from wood.纸是由木材制作的。
Big Ben has rarely gone wrong. rarely 很少地 “大本”钟很少出差错。
it failed to give the correct time. correct 是形容词，译为正确的。failed to...未能做... 整句翻译：它报错了时间。
who had been working on the tower 是主语painter的定语，hung才是这句句子的谓语动词。
