I did a research proposal earlier this year and was lucky enough to secure funding for a MA and PhD on the back of it. Firstly, remember that you only have 500 to 700 words so doing a literature review is pointless. Refer to a couple of research articles but don't overdo it. Firstly, you need to define what your "problem/issue" is, then you need to say what your research questions are in relation to your "issue". Write a little about how you will carry out your research and finally, make sure you point out why your research is currently of interest/relevence. If it's not currently relevent, chances are you won't get any funding. Good luck!!
