On the 1st of December, 1927, a significant event took place as Chiang Kai-shek and Song Meiling united in marriage. As a token of his love, Song Ziwen, Song Meiling's alias, made a generous gesture by purchasing a spacious, Western-style garden house, located at what is now known as 9 Dongping Road.
The residence, adorned with a French architectural flair, boasts a main building and two auxiliary structures. Notably, in front of the house, a rockery can be found, etched with Chiang Kai-shek's own inscription, "Love House", serving as a testament to their union. Today, this historic site has a different purpose, functioning as the administrative office for the Shanghai Beijing Opera Troupe.
Surrounding the villa were properties belonging to the Song and Kong families, which have since undergone transformation. These once private dwellings have been repurposed into restaurants and bars, popular destinations for locals seeking leisure and entertainment.
