1. The morning of the Spring Festival, I eagerly jumped out of bed, full of energy. I excitedly called out to my parents, and when my dad saw me up so early, he too couldn't help but get up from bed. My mom also had to wake up. After washing our faces and brushing our teeth, the first thought on our minds was to enjoy a hearty breakfast!
2. The idea of eating filled me with anticipation, and I quickly suggested various options to my parents. Since my mother is the chef in our home, the final decision was left to her. She suggested, "It's been a long time since we've had dumplings; let's have some today." We all readily agreed.
3. Once we decided on our menu, we divided the tasks among us. Dad was in charge of preparing the filling, mom handled the dough, and I was responsible for boiling the water. The process was thrilling, and within half an hour, the ground was set, the dumplings were prepared, and the water was boiling. My mother expertly packed the dumplings, and my sister and I also tried to learn the skill. I found it quite challenging to package the dumplings properly, but I persevered. My mother encouraged me, "I was born into this, so I know how to do it well. It's hard to learn at first, but you'll get the hang of it."
4. Winter vacation was coming, and we were excited to welcome the holidays. Usually, winter vacation was fun because the Spring Festival fell during this time.
5. The Spring Festival was a special day for every Chinese person, especially for children. During the festival, relatives visited each other and exchanged gifts. It was a joyful moment for children, as they received lucky money.
6. However, I am no longer a child. This year, I wanted to make the festival a bit different. I planned to have a unique experience. I decided to sell toys at the flower market. I would ask my friends to join me. If we earned some money, I would buy presents for my parents. It was my turn to give back to my parents for their love and care.
7. It was the eve of the Spring Festival.
8. As dusk fell, I eagerly slurped the last bit of my rice and put down my chopsticks.
9. "They're starting!" my friend exclaimed excitedly. "Quick! Quick!"
10. Outside, children were running everywhere. Their happy voices and faces warmed my heart, despite the cold wind that met me. My friend handed me a bundle of straw. "Come!" he cried. I giggled and ran to catch up with him, caught up in the children's excitement.
11. I soon joined a rowdy group of children and teenagers who were building a bonfire in the middle of a path that cut through the wheat fields. "Here," my friend said, giving me a long bamboo pole. "Put some straw in the fire, then tie the rest onto your pole like this." He demonstrated with his own materials, and I followed his example. Then he placed both our torches into the fire and handed me mine. "Now, run!"
12. And run we did——we all did. For miles around, as far as I could see, there were small orange specks scattered about, and I could hear the distant shrieks and laughter of other children running up and down the rice field path. For several hours into the night, I helped build the fire and kept an eye on the younger children. Occasionally, I too lit a torch and ran around like a madman, screaming and waving a flaming bamboo pole.
13. This festival, which occurred six days before Chinese New Year, was just one of the experiences I had during my visit to my friend over the Spring Festival. Later, I was told that the purpose behind this festival was to allow the children to have fun burning up all the straw leftover after the harvest. The ashes were then used as fertilizer.详情
