丙辰年的中秋节，高兴地喝酒（直）到（第二天）早晨，（喝到）大醉，写了这首（词），同时怀念（弟弟）子由。
丙辰中秋，欢饮达旦，大醉，作此篇，兼怀子由。
明月什么时候出现的？（我）端着酒杯问青天。不知道天上的神仙宫阙里，现在是什么年代了。（传说神仙世界里只过几天，地下已是几千年，故此设问。）我想乘着风回到天上（好象自己本来就是从天上下到人间来的，所以说“归去”），只怕玉石砌成的美丽月宫，在高空中经受不住寒冷（传说月中宫殿叫广寒宫）。在浮想联翩中，对月起舞，清影随人，仿佛乘云御风，置身天上，哪里象在人间！
