关系副词是副词，副词是不能代替名词的，所以关系副词在从句中作状语。
比较这两句话：
I will never forget the days which they are talking about.
I will never forget the days when I lived with my grandparents.
先行词都是days，但是第一句，days在从句中作talk about的宾语，所以要用关系代词；
第二句，实际的意思是：I lived with my grandparents in the days.所以是作时间状语，因此用关系副词。
