学术论文的article和paper有什么区别？

我是这么理解的：
article有文章的意思，也有论文的意思，应该是那种发表了的，印在某种刊物上的，有一些影响力的。
paper不是纸的意思么，当论文讲的话，就是普通的那种，学生写的，学期期末论文什么的都算。
