13 We only stayed at the Metropole for one night before we unfortunately left Vietnam. Arriving fairly late that day meant that there's not too much to say about it. What really stood out for this hotel was the warmest of welcomes from the extremely cheerful and chatty Bell boy, the excellent reception staff and the (tacky I know) board in reception welcoming us by name! After reading a few reviews on this hotel, I had expected the room to be more dated than it actually was. I was pleasantly surprised when we were taken into the room and for our one night were very comfortable. In the heat of Saigon a pool is very welcoming and this has to be a huge plus for this hotel. Breakfast was a buffet with the usual egg station and was very good. Great value through this site for the room and an excellent location with very lovely staff!"
14 This was the worst experience we've ever had a hotel in Southeast Asia. We arrived to a foul-smelling room and found giant cochroaches on the bathroom floor and mosquitos on the walls. The room was old and musty, and the bed was as hard as a rock. The maid didn't even come to clean the room the first day of our stay until we called to complain at 6:00 pm. The hotel staff was not helpful in answering our questions about the area, telling us matter-of-factly that certain museums and sites would be closed for the recent Tet holiday when indeed they were all open. The information they provided us was hardly ever accurate, yet they never acknowledged not knowing the answers to our questions. It would have been much better to simply tell us they didn't know. We will not stay at this hotel again, even though the restaurant served decent food. "
