1、词义不同
be used for 意为“被用作??”的意思。be used by意为“被??使用”的意思。前者表示被什么用，后者表示被用来做什么。

2、短语中介词用法不同
be used for在这个短语中，介词for表用途。
be used by 短语中，介词by表示被的意思。
3、后接对象不同
