United States要加the，但是老师又说人名、地名、国名前不加冠词，请问这是为什么呢？

在英文里，要加 the 的国名有两种：

1。复数的国名 －－ 后面都有 s
the United States 美国
the Netherlands 荷兰
the Seychelles 塞舌尔

2。形容词短语 ／ 复合短语的国名
the People's Republic of China 中华人民共和国
the Republic of Korea 大韩民国
the United Kingdom 联合国王

其他的国名如 China, Australia, Germany, Russia 等，都是一个大词而已，所以不用加 the。好像只有一个例外，就是 the Ukraine （乌克兰）。我们为什么加 the 我也不知道。英文很奇怪吧！

如果是含有普通名词的专有名词就加the , 因为United States 还有states. 还有比如the Great wall 因为含有wall
