be adequate to加动词、名词都可以，所以加动名词从语法上应该成立。但加动名词没有看见国外例句，都是国内网站例句。追问

我一本书写be adequate to doing sth是胜任做某事，另一本写be adequate to do sth是胜任做某事，请问第一个不可以吗？

应该可以的。只是不知道外国人是否习惯这么用。总之语法没有问题的。
