老板，今天很高兴你能接受我们的采访，我们想向您咨询一下有关旗袍的一些信息。首先我们想问您一下你做这一行做了多久？
做了差不多15年
那是很长的一段时间
旗袍分为剪裁、刺绣等很多方面，在开店之前你是专做哪一行的？剪裁方面还是刺绣方面还是其他的？
以前我不是做这一行的
那是后来转行做这个的？
对的，可以这么说。我以前从事的行业跟这个完全没有关系，是后来才开始学做这个的。我们一开始学做的还不是中式的，是做西式的，就是西装、礼服之类的。然后是在99年，大概是在Apike会议的前3年，开始做中式的服装
然后就开了这家店吗？
不，我们最早开的是一家荣荣服饰制作坊，是和一个台湾人合作的，开的很大，就是街对面的“小城故事”。很大，3间房合在一起的，最早在十全这条街的位置是开古董店的，没有什么做衣服的，我们是最早一家做衣服的店。后来慢慢的把这条街带兴起来了。一整条街都是卖衣服的，变成了服装一条街。在这条街上别人开的店不敢说，我们这里做衣服是比较讲究特色的，就是刺绣，不光是在旗袍上刺绣，衣服上刺绣，裤子上刺绣，还有披肩等许多地方。
那当初你们主要做的是礼服，怎么会想到有这种转变来做旗袍刺绣等传统的衣服？
当时的时候我认识了一个台湾人叫做宜太太，她是经常跑世界各地的。她觉得中国的服装还是应该体现中国特色的，因为礼服做的再好也是别人的，因为它的发源地是在国外，而旗袍的发源地是在中国。因为在国外你拥有一件唐装，一件旗袍那是非常了不起的事，特别是有一件带有刺绣的衣服，那是更好的了。他不仅是一件衣服，而且代表了你的身份。因为这样的衣服在那时候是有钱人才穿的起的。对于普通人来说是很奢侈的，不能想象的。那位台湾太太是跟着她先生到这边来的，她先生原来是飞利浦的总经理，由于平常生活比较宽裕，在家有比较多的时间所以觉得从事这一行，做做衣服还是比较好玩的

(Q) We are glad you can accept our interview, boss.; we would like to ask for some information regarding cheongsam. Firstly, how long have you been in this profession?
(A) Almost 15 years.
(Q) That’s quite a long time. Cheongsam involves many aspects like tailoring, embroidery etc., what was your profession before you open your business? Tailoring, embroidery or others?
(A) I was not in this line of business before.
(Q) So you later switched to this profession?
(A) You can say that. What I did before had nothing to do with this line; I learned to do this later on. When I first started, I learned the western styled dresses and not Chinese, like business suits and formal dresses. Then it was in 1999, about 3 years before the APEC meeting that I started to do the Chinese styled dresses.
(Q) Then you opened this shop?
(A) No. We started with a shop called “Rong Rong Attires”, a joint venture with a Taiwanese. It was quite big, combining three shops in a row, right at the opposite side of this street which is now called “Small Town Happenings”. Earlier on, along this “ShiQuan Street” were all antique shops, we were the first tailoring shop here. Later it prospered under our influence, and now the whole street is selling dresses. I wouldn’t speak for others, but our shop is very particular about special features, that is embroidery, not only on cheongsam, blouses and pants but also on shawls and other places.
(Q) Originally, you were doing formal dresses, what tempted you to change to traditional clothes like cheongsam and embroidery?
(A) At that time I met a Taiwanese named Madam Yi, she was a regular world trotter. She reckoned that Chinese dresses should reflect Chinese features; no matter how good a tuxedo you made, it still belonged to a foreign country because it was where it originated, but cheongsam was from China. It’s a great thing to own a Tang suit or a cheongsam in other countries especially with embroidery. It was not merely a dress but a symbol of status because it was very expensive at that time, a luxury to ordinary people, only affordable to the rich. That Taiwanese lady came here with her husband, a former general manager of Phillips Company. She was well to do and with plenty of free time, so she felt it was fun to indulge in dress making.

The shop which others open on this street did not dare saying that here made clothes is the comparison is fastidious about the characteristic, was an embroidery, not only embroidered on the Chinese dress, on clothes embroidered, on the pants embroidered, but also had the shawl and so on many places. what that initially you mainly did is formal clothes, how will think that will have this kind of transformation to make traditional and so on Chinese dress embroidery clothes? time I then had known a Taiwan people are called suitable wife, she is runs frequently the world. She thought that China's clothing should manifest the Chinese characteristic, because the formal clothes do well are also again others, because its place of origin is in overseas, but Chinese dress's place of origin is in China. Because has a Chinese-style clothing in overseas you, a Chinese dress that is the very great matter, specially some have the embroidery clothes, that was better. He is not only clothes, and has represented your status. Because such clothes in are at that time the rich talented person put on. Regarding the average person is very luxurious, cannot imagine. That Taiwan wife is coming with her husband to here, her husband is Phillips's general manager originally, because usually lives is quite ample, has the quite much time in the home, therefore thought that is engaged in this line, makes clothes quite to be amusing.
