I'm afraid。是个常用口语中的句头插入语， 它的出现不影响句子结构。意思是
‘恐怕’和汉语的应用场合类似。但英语口语中用得更多。
当你要告诉他人或向别人肯定一件事(而且要告诉或肯定的事并不是听者所期待的事
) 时， 都可以在回答内容前直接加‘I'm afraid’。例如:
Is he not the new project manager?
I'm afraid not. (=I'm afraid he isn't.)
Is she going to teach us English? Her English is awful.
I'm afraid she is.
Was I the last person in the exam last week?
I'm afraid you were.
Has that man married the beautiful girl?
I'm afraid he has.
Do I have to go to Chongqing with the boss on 31 of December?
I'm afraid you have to.
Have we lost the final chance to win the cup?
I'm afraid we have. (I'm afraid so).
I am afraid you have not appreciated the urgency of the matter.
