阿拉伯语有28个字母，
都是辅音。
元音没有字母（其实字母ى和و表示i和u，字母y与i的符号不同，u与w同用一个符号ِ），需要标记时采用专门的符号，如在《古兰经》、初级课本、辞书中使用，正式书报刊物中一般不使用。所有以阿拉伯字母为基础的文字都如此。
