关于reason的英语问题！

The reason 后面（for,why,that.）都出现在什么情况？求大神详细解答。举例：the reason___he forgot the time ___we had appointed doesn't sound very blievable. A.why,that. B.that.when.C.that,that.选什么呢？

看这个先行词作什么成分

第一空：

取决于reason在定语从句中的成分
he forgot the time 主谓宾完整，说明reason在重句中无法作主谓宾，
那么只能作状语，that是名词性的，不可以，只能用why.

第二空：
同理：we had appointed (明显缺宾语，we had appointed (the time),
when 只能作时间状语
所以只能用that.
