Today, it’s a pleasure for me to stand here and I’m very pleased to have such an opportunity to share some of my teaching ideas with you. First, let me introduce myself
My topic today is taken from Module 1 Unit 1 in Student Book 10. The main content of this unit is “Jobs”, and the topic of M1U1 is “She was a driver before”. I will say the teaching process of the second period. I have decided to say the lesson from six parts:
 
Part One —— Analysis of the Teaching Material
One: Status and Function
1. This unit tells us people’s jobs and the related stories. In the first period, students will learn some words, phrases and expressions of jobs, and so on. In Module 1 Unit 1, Lingling will introduce her grandparents jobs to us, and she is very proud of them.
2. To attain “four skills” request of listening, speaking, reading and writing, I will have the students do some exercise about the text in the second period.
3. Such a topic is very important in this unit. I will lead the students to use their imagination and encourage them to be creative and have confidence to make their dream come true. For example, helping them use English to describe some famous people’s experience in their occupation life in current society. So I think if the students can learn this lesson well, it will be helpful to make them learn the rest of this module.
Two: Teaching Aims and Demands
  The teaching aim's basis is established according to English syllabus' provision.
1. Knowledge objects
  (1) To review the new words “driver”, “flute player” and “drove”. Then the students can listen, speak, read and write these words.
  (2) The students can listen, speak, read and write the sentences “ What was he/she? He/She was a … What did he/She do? He/She … What is he/she now? He/She is a … What does he/She do? He/She …”, etc.
2. Ability objects
  (1) To develop the students’ abilities of listening, speaking, reading and writing.
  (2) To train the students’ ability of working in pairs. The students can make a new dialogue in groups.
  (3) To develop the students’ abilities of communication by learning the useful structures. The students can read and write a short passage about their families, friends or somebody they like.
3. Moral objects
  (1) Through different teaching methods to make students be interested in study.
  (2) Love to know more knowledge about jobs and dare to express their opinions in English.
  (3) Encourage the students to be more creative and have confidence, and know about we should study and work hard to make their dream come true.
Three: Teaching Keys and Difficult Points
  The teaching keys and difficult points’ basis is established according to Module 1 Unit 1 in the teaching material's position and function.
1. Key points:
  (1).Be able to express words, phrases and sentences in English.
  (2). Know about the functions of jobs .
2. Difficult points:
  Be able to talk about their families, friends and somebody’s jobs in oral English.
 
Part Two —— The Teaching Methods
  
  1. Communicative teaching method; 2. Audio-visual teaching method;
  3. Task-based teaching method; 4. Classified teaching method.
  As we all know: the main instructional aims of learning English in Grade five is to cultivate students’ abilities of listening, speaking, reading, writing and their good sense of the English language. So in this lesson I’ll mainly use “Communicative” teaching method, “Audio-visual” teaching method and “Task-based” teaching method and “Classified” teaching method. That is to say, I’ll let the students get a better understanding of the key structures. I’ll give the students some tasks and arrange some kinds of activities, like talking, listening, reading and writing in groups.
  In a word, I want to make the students the real masters in class while the teacher himself acts as director. I also hope to combine the language structures with the language functions and let the students receive some moral education while they are learning the English language.
 
Part Three —— Studying ways
  1. Teach the students how to be successful language learners.
  2. Make situation and provide meaningful duty, encourage the students to practice the language by themselves.
   
Part Four —— Teaching steps
  As this lesson plays an important part in the English teaching of this unit, I have decided the following steps to train their ability of listening, speaking, reading and writing, especially speaking and writing ability.
  The entire steps are:
Step1 Warm-up and Lead-in
Sing a song or a chant that have learned in the first period. We can read the text together, then do read and circle to make the students understand this text better. Show the students some pictures of common jobs, like teacher, doctor, fireman and so on. Ask the students: What is he/she? What does he/she do?
  Purpose of my designing: In this part, have the students say more about jobs and jobs’ functions. In this way, they will know today’s lesson has something to do with their discussion.

Step 2 Development practice.
  1. Ask and answer. Show students questions about their real jobs.
  Purpose of my designing: After making a new dialogue in groups, the students can make a better use of the structures in this text that make the basis of the next development practices.
  2. Listen and choose. Students listen a little passage about Maradona. Then finish the exercises on the computer.
  Purpose of my designing: This step is easy for students. Let the students have a chance to practice their listening ability. Teacher can play the listening material twice for them that students can grasp the general meaning of the material.
  3. Read the passage about Maradona.
  After listening , show students the listening material about Maradona. Make the present tense and past tense words red. Make sure they can read them well. And understand the use of words in different tenses.
  Purpose of my designing: To present the material is much easier for the students to learn and grasp the use of words in different tenses. And make the basis of next talking practice.
  4. Let’s talk.
  Show students some famous people in current society, tell them to have a discussion about the pictures in groups. Then encourage them try to fill the blank with reasonable words they know. At last, I will help them to master some new words and phrases about jobs. I will get them to know the use of these phrases. Encourage them to do some exercise about these phrases. Not only the phrases we learned in the first period.
  Purpose of my designing: By practising using these new words and similar phrases, the students will know how to use them in English and master the use of them better. Then make the students use these words in real circumstances while permeate the moral education.
5. Read and judge.
Give the students two or three minutes to read the passage about Mo Yan together in groups. Tell them to read aloud. Then help the students to finish the judgement questions and correct the false sentences.
Purpose of my designing: By reading the passage and correct the false sentences, get the students to practise their reading and speaking ability again.
  6. Think and write.
  Write about the students families, friends and somebody they like by imitating the passage about Mo Yan. The students can use the words or phrases they learned in the first period and this class. The teacher can show the useful words on the blackboard or let the students find them in their books for writing .
  Purpose of my designing: By writing the passage, get the students to practice their writing ability and comprehensive application ability of language.

Part Five —— Summarize and Homework
Ask the students to summary the questions about jobs and the use and changes of the verbs in different tenses. The students can finish the writing after class.
At last, tell the students what today’s homework is.
 
Part Six —— Blackboard Designing

  Purpose of my designing: Presents the text key content clearly on the blackboard, favors the students to knowledge grasping.
