There are many important Chinese festivals during winter vacation, so it is more enjoyable than summer vacation, although it is shorter. Among those family gathering special moments, Chinese New Year is the one I believe the most memorable.
New Year's Eve is a very significant date in Chinese culture, on which the whole family will have family reunion dinner. Uncles and Aunts will come back home to pay visits to relatives, no matter how far away their working cities are. East or West, Home is the best. I feel deeply touched when I see people overcome all kinds of difficulties on the long journey in order to GO HOME. And I also wonder what are the motives for travelling a long distance to go home. The calling from the family and the longing from senior family members are the reason. We do not expect more than merely feeling reassured that everyone is safe and sound.
We need such a special moment to bring the family together, and I am glad that the majority of Chinese keep this tradition so well. The traditional festival is a ritual to consolidate the family and keep family-centered concepts deep into our blood, so that we know for sure that no matter what stands in our way, our family is our strong backup and our refuel station.
