「Secret Garden 秘密花园」为一男一女的挪威组合，男生负责键盤，女生负责小提琴。
" You raise me up "由「秘密花园」中的 Rolf Løvland 洛夫罗兰作曲，原先是一首器乐曲，曲名" Silent story 无声故事 "。洛夫罗兰後来读了爱尔兰作家 Brendan Graham 布兰登葛拉汉的小说，邀请他为这首曲子填词，成为" You raise me up "。这首歌首度发表於秘密花园 2002 年的专辑《Once in a Red Moon》，由爱尔兰歌手 Brian Kennedy 布莱恩甘乃迪担纲演唱。
这首歌一开始并未引起注意，仅在爱尔兰和挪威销量较佳。2003 年，友人介绍这首歌给金牌制作人 David Foster 大卫佛斯特，他决定交给美声男歌手 Josh Groban 乔许葛洛班演唱，收录於乔许葛洛班 2004 年的专辑《Closer 爱已近》。
乔许葛洛班的翻唱版本在美国百大流行榜最高只有 73 名，但在成人抒情榜却待了六周冠军。不久以後，乔许葛洛班分别在第 38 届美式足球超级杯比赛中场、哥伦比亚号太空梭遇难人员追思会和电视名主持人欧普拉的 50 岁生日会上献唱此曲，大大提升了这首歌的国际能见度，他也因这首歌获得了 2005 年葛莱美奖提名最佳流行男歌手。
2004 年，全美国的广播电台共计播放这首歌超过五十万次；2005年年底，仅在美国当地就有八十几个翻唱版本，其中福音团体 Selah 的翻唱版本获得福音音乐奖四项提名，包括「年度最佳歌曲」。使原本就极具正面意义的歌词延伸至不同的面向。
2005 年，英国的偶像团体 Westlife 西城男孩合唱团翻唱" You raise me up "，才真正把这首歌推向高峰。这首歌在英国登上排行榜首，也是该团成军以来第13 首冠军单曲。
後来，这首歌翻唱版本越来越多。老实说，老安德森最初并未被这首歌打动，乔许葛洛班没打到我，瑞典 Sissel Kyrkjebø 西丝儿、Celtic Women 居尔特女声没打到我，Russell Watson 罗素华生没有打到我，Paul Potts保罗帕兹和 Il Divo 美声男伶录制的西班牙语版本" Por Ti Sere "也是。
