Lodon--the latest sale of black sea billet went through at 576/mt CFR north turkey from a trader to a mill friday,as offers from traders continued to plummet,dropping even below bid levels,from re-rollers in turkey registered earlier this week,participants said.
the cargo originally was offered to a longproducts steelmaker in north turkey at the same level before a second trader heard that the deal had been pushed through to a tukish buyer.
Details of volume and dimensions were not determined at the time of publishing but with freight at $15-20/MT from black sea ports to north-west turkey and other pre-payment bookings made at $560-565/mt fob black sea by traders.billet pricing showed more weakness this week.
“mills are still offering $570-575/mt FOB[black sea]for the last tonnages available for febuary,”an international trader said.”traders are shorting the billet market as they see weakness in scrap.”
The latest sale from black sea traders to Turkish mills is substantially lower than the $585-590/mt CFR Marmara and lzmirports figures at which re-rollers in turkey were bidding earlier this week.
The plats billet export figure tumbled another $10 Friday to finish the week at $560/mtFOB Black sea.even though mils failed to lower offers to this level,traders were willing to sell below producers’valuations.
The plats figure has now fallen $45/mt sincemid-january.
Major importer iran’s lack of buying has made sentiment considerably down beat,although the Iranian central bank’s attempt to boost trade by bringing up interest rates on savings in the local rial currency and setting the currency at 12,260/1usd may provide importers with more stability and encourage some imports to resume,one trader maintained.
